It’s only fair to spend some time talking about Men’s Swimwear trends for 2008. The good news for guys is, not much has changed since last year! Board shorts (the longer trunks that are around knee-length) are still going to be the most popular choice.

Don’t let the name fool you—board shorts are not just for surfers. Board shorts look good on just about any male body type, whereas tighter and shorter suits do not.

If you’re a pro swimmer or swim for sport in some fashion, you’re probably more comfortable with the smaller, tighter suits. No, I’m not talking about banana hammocks and itty bitty Speedos. Just more like shorter shorts that are close fitting.

At any rate, it’s kind of the same as women’s suits—if you have the body for it, and the confidence, it’s okay. If you don’t, please try the board short option.

Some other things guys need to think about when preparing to wear a swim suit—hair and footwear. I’m not talking about hair styles. If you’re going in the water, it’s gonna get wet so that’s not too important.

The hair you need to make some choices about is located on your back and chest. Some hair is fine. Looking like a bear is not in style right now so consider a wax.

As for footwear, it’s okay to wear regular tennis shoes to the beach, but remember that the sand can get *really* hot and you may not want to keep putting on tennis shoes every time you’re walking up to the concession stand or bathrooms. Sandals are a perfect choice and they come in plenty of styles—with ankle straps, without ankle straps, in leather, or fabric.

If you can deal with it, take along a trusted friend when you’re shopping for your trunks. A trusted and fashionable friend, that is.
